    Supplementary aids and services

    What does this mean anyway? Supplementary aids and services… Seems like a vague thing. Well, it is. It really means anything that is going to help your child. Positive Behavior Interventions, furniture, special equipment. Whatever. So, if you are in a meeting and the team (teachers, admin, psychologist, etc.) sort of smooth over this point and you have some kind of idea that might help your child ASK! Maybe you know about some sensory supports that work for your child, maybe you know that he/she prefers a chair with arms on it for structure, maybe your child needs an FM system or a light board, Bring it up!     Parent rights

    I want to talk about parent’s rights. You know, that thing they offer you at every meeting but no one seems to understand what they are? And those things you probably accept because you think you should but no one ever explains them to you? Yep, those parent rights AKA “Procedural Safeguards”. When ever they offer it to you, TAKE IT! (Unless you have enough to wallpaper the house, AND someone has explained them). When they ask you if you want to go over them, say YES.     Hello all! This is my official first post and launching of this blog! I want this to be a place for parents to access information about special education and their child. I also want it to be a place where teachers can answer questions that parents might have, but are too scared, intimidated, or just plain embarrassed to ask at the school meetings.
